The dog is obviously using his charm and personality to avoid punishment and to get back on the good side of his young master. When I conceived the idea for this work, I had in mind several incidents that were acted out many times when I was a boy. Frustrating as they sometimes were then, it brings great joy to me when I remember those times now. - JD
