"...The strong black and white markings of the male make interesting and graceful shapes. I always associate them with the happy but chilling hours I spent as a teenager with my buddies roaming the northern shore of Lake Ontario. The Lombardy poplar is an elegant immigrant from Europe reminiscent of canals of Holland and laneways in France. I enjoyed the shapes in the silhouette with the glinting of sun on the icy water." - Robert Bateman.
