"The Canada goose has always been a special bird for the inhabitants of North America. It providied food for the native people and was a most welcome supplement to the diet of the original European settlers. Each autumn, these old and new Americans anxiously awaited the return of the goose from its summer breeding grounds. Feasting and celebration followed, accompanying the serious task of storing meat for the winter.
