Artist Judi Rideout resides in Alaska along with her real-life subjects of bear, wolf, caribou and moose. She often ventures into the wilderness to view wildlife in its natural setting. She is one of the few individuals chosen to camp out at the famed McNeil River, a state-run sanctuary where the Alaskan bears gather yearly for a salmon feast. For Rideout, it was an experience she wouldn’t have traded for anything. “It’s awesome, one of those trips of a lifetime.” Working with pastels, she enjoys creating bold close ups that bring the observer eye-to-eye with her animal subjects.
Her artwork speaks to a wide range of people, from wildlife preservationists to hunters. Judi Rideout is well-respected in the world of wildlife art, and her limited edition prints often sell out. She has been the recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Society of Animal Artists and has been the featured artist at the Wildlife and Western Heritage Exposition in Houston, Texas, as well as the Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show in Seattle, Washington.
